Saima works mostly with oil colours on canvas. Her work for a long span of time was inspired by the words and philosophy of the great poet RUMI. She developed an expertise in depicting the movement of the whirling dervishes, which are popularly related to the Rumi teachings. She studied the dervishes closely having spent some time with them in meditation, and reflects the deepest emotions felt during and leading to those meditative dances. She varies her colour pallet from mono tones to paintings where the whole canvas is filled with a burst of shouting colours. One of her most famous series of paintings is done in black white and gold.

Statement

I paint with a purpose and a story in my mind. I paint to put my thoughts emotions and reflections on the canvas. Every painting is a story which I want to share with my viewers. It’s my journey which I have put on canvas for the world to see.
